Saving a Web Page
How are you going to make sure students have done their work? What if they don't finish in time? This page will help you save and print the pages that students are using.

After students have filled in their answers, there are a few ways they can save their work. Perhaps the easiest is to simply cut and paste everything into a word processing editor. Drag over all of the text, then either right click and choose "copy" or use the browser menu and choose "Edit," "Copy." Then open a new document and paste into your word processing editor.

As an alternative, use the browser menu to save their page as plain text. This is not really recommended but will work in a pinch. If they save as HTML, they will not save their answers; only the questions! Unfortunately, the text file loses all formatting and just puts the text on the page. However, if no word processing editor is available, the steps to save as a plain text file are:

  1. "File," "Save As."
  2. Single-click "Save As Type" from pull-down menu at the bottom of the window
  3. Choose "Text File (*.txt) "
  4. Navigate to the location where you want to save.
  5. Pick a good name (student's name?)
  6. Save.

After saving their work, they can edit it. They can add their name, the date, move things around so they fit on the page better, or edit their answers. Now it's ready to store, or print and turn in.

Printing a Web Page

If you have access to a printer and there's enough paper, it is possible to simply print the Treasure Hunt right from the computer screen. You might want to edit the printer settings so it doesn't print in color. If numerous students print at the same time, it may cause problems as it could become difficult to identify which pages belong to which student. Use "File, Print Preview" to see what you'll be getting.
